Started assisting Will Holland on some video shoots for the Imogene & Willie super and song nights. This past month’s featured Karen Elson, off camera lens tilting, and a cute kid with a cow-lick.
Just acquired this baby. An Omega/Toyo View 45F large format camera! There may or may not be some collodion wet plate experimentation in my near future. Look out, Sally Mann.
The best part about film photography is all the uncontrollable variables involved. I love putting a print into developer and 30 seconds later saying to myself “well shit, that didn’t work at all did it.” Some of them I keep though. My favorite accidents become my best prints.
This is a great example of contrast and exposure time manipulation. The contact sheet for the first shot is way darker, where the contact sheet frame for the second is way lighter.
All I had to do was bump my contrast filter up to, say, a 3.5 and pull my exposure time down. Super short actually. 5 and 3 seconds respectively at f/22.
The first one blows out most of the highlights and my lights become my highlights, mid-tones my lights, etc. But because my contrast filter is so high, I can still retain the shadows and darks at a super short exposure time.
